JFK CoC Sponsors Airport Security Seminar

On March 14, 2014 the JFK Int’l Airport Chamber of Commerce sponsored an Aviation Security Seminar at Farmingdale State University. The seminar was moderated by Joe Clabby 1st VP of the JFK Chamber of Commerce, President & CEO Corporate Loss Prevention and a visiting professor at Farmingdale University. The purpose of the program is to bring awareness to students who are pursuing careers in the aviation industry about Airport Security. Representatives from various airport-based companies participated in the discussion panel that took place.

Christ for the World Chapel began ministry at the John F. Kennedy International Airport in 1964 as the JFK Protestant Chapel. The ministry was established by the Council of Churches of the City of New York (then, The Protestant Council). Located on the 4th floor (departures level) in Terminal 4 at the John F. Kennedy International Airport, the mission of the Chapel is to fulfill the mandate given by Jesus the Christ to “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.”

Bringing the good news of God’s grace to the world takes many forms and one of them is to offer a one-time Scholarship in the amount of $2,000 towards the higher education of an aviation industry employee working at John F. Kennedy International Airport, the child of an aviation industry employee or a student of Aviation High School, NYC.

The JFK Int’l Airport Chamber of Commerce will host a seminar on
“The Overview of the Affordable Care Act (ACA)”

North Shore-LIJ Health System a member of the JFK Int’l Chamber of Commerce has been granted a license by New York to launch the first provider-owned commercial health insurance plan on the state’s health insurance exchange known as “CareConnect”. CareConnect, the first provider-owned commercial health plan in New York, will offer lower prices and gives the healthcare provider “serious control” over quality and care coordination, says an NS-LIJHS executive.

The topics covered are:

    1.  How the Affordable Care Act (ACA) affects the individual as well as the small business employer
    2. Changes in the New York insurance marketplace
    3. How to purchase health insurance
    4. An in introduction to NSLIJ “CareConnect”

There is no cost to attend this event, however, advance reservations are required

This is the fifth year that the JFK Int’l Airport of Chamber of Commerce has supported Elijah’s Promise, a food kitchen in New Brunswick, NJ in memory of William DeCota, former Director of Aviation of the Port Authority of NY&NJ. Over the years Mr. DeCota was a true friend of the JFK Airport Community as well as the Aviation and Airline industry. For many years Mr. DeCota would volunteer on Thanksgiving day at Elijah’s Promise food kitchen in the preparation and serving of dinners to the poor and homeless. The JFK Intl. Airport Chamber of Commerce has adopted this tradition by contributing Turkeys and Hams. In addition, Mr. Clabby and his staff have each year baked a number of apple pies at their facility in Bellmore, NY as their contribution to this annual event. In addition CLPA and the JFK Rotary Club have contributed clothing for this event.
